I call dibs on licking the spoon

My dog/diva/little sister, Ginger, is to thank for this one. So the next time you see her give her a piece of cheese or popcorn.

Today as I was making myself a pb&j sand which (which I like to put chips inside the sand which, you should try it), Ginger wanders into the kitchen to find out what her puppy eyes can get me to give her. Normally, there is some potential piece of what I'm making that I can give her but today it was just a sand which and I knew she wouldn't like it. I turned to her and politely told her "No Ging, you wouldn't like this" but of course what did she do? She sat down and stubbornly waited.

That's when God hinted at a little parable in my scenario. Can you guess where this is going? Probably so. Okay, so in this story we, as humans, are like my dog Ginger and the one preparing something is like God. Often times we sense God is up to something and follow Him into the "kitchen" to see what He's up to. We sit and wait for Him to turn around and give us a bite of the wonderful things He's creating.

But what if what He's creating isn't for us? What if what He's creating isn't something that is good for us so He withholds it from our consumption?

We are humans and we want greater things so we usually plop ourselves on the floor of the kitchen and wait for a taste anyways. Even if what He's making isn't for us and even if what He is withholding isn't good for us.

Ginger doesn't know that large amounts of chocolate could kill her, but I do and so that is why I don't even give her a little bit of chocolate because I don't want there to be even a chance of her getting hurt. You don't know that that boy could break your heart and lead you down a path of destruction, but God does and so He doesn't want you to even be TALKING to the boy because there is room for even the tiniest bit of hurt there. So you got perfect, amazing job opportunity but you keep feeling like God is saying "No" but you don't understand why because every door has been opened. Even if the food smells good and you think you'll like it, God might be sparing you from something that could destroy you.

God would never want to keep you from good things to be mean or to torture you, He is protective, loving, caring and has great compassion on you. Despite the mistakes you make He wants to keep you from making more. So when God says "No" or when it feels like He's holding back whatever He's cooking up in the kitchen from you, respect that He knows what is best for you.

He could be preparing something for you but it's just not done yet or He could be making something that you want for someone else. Don't be discouraged when those around you seem to be getting what you have been praying and waiting for.

There will come a time when He turns around and gives you a taste of what He's been preparing for you.

"What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared (made and keeps ready) for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed]." 1 Cor 2:9
