I run to...capital Y-o-u?
Picture this: Your coffee spilled all over your brand new outfit you bought for your important interview and then the interview went horribly, and then you get a speeding ticket on the way home to your dinner for one. If you can't relate to that, imagine dropping all of your books in the hallway for everyone to see, failing a crucial test, and then your mom being late to pick you up.
As soon as you get a minute to pick up your phone, who do you call? Who do you text? Who do you THINK about calling or texting? Who do you depend on to reassure yourself that everything is going to be okay?
Don't get me wrong, I love the Lady Antebellum song "I Run to You" just as much as the next person...but what am I saying when I sing that song? As you learned in the blog yesterday, what we sing becomes a reflection of what our hearts mean. So the question for today is:
When life becomes a little more than chaotic and you are falling apart, are you running to lower case y-o-u or capital Y-o-u?
It's very natural for us to run to those we are the closest to and who have the most influence in our lives. But honestly, the only advice they can give you is only what they finitely know. Let me step on some toes here, are you running to someone of the opposite sex? Are you hoping that in the process of comforting you they will say something to make you feel better about yourself and then reveal how much they love you and wish to take care of you? Just like in New Moon!! Get real.
Other people can only provide temporary words to help mask your pain, but capital Y-o-u will ransom you from your pain and reveal His purpose and joy through the process.
"O Lord, You took up my case; You redeemed my life." - Lam. 3:58
Even if you think it's easier to just text your best friend or call your boyfriend, even if it takes longer to wait on God and to walk through the process He wants to take you through...run to Him. RUN from yourself, run from the finite opinions of your friends, run from the mundane hopelessness in your mind.
I know it's scarier and a lot less "instant gratification" -y...but run into the unknown, because running deep into the unknown is having faith in the You that knows.
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you."- Psl. 32:8

Who do you run to and put your trust in: you or You?
Btw, I love this blog. In general, not just this post. :P
ReplyDeleteBut, this post really hit me. I've been having a really hard time recently, battling through loneliness and depression. The other day, I was incredibly upset and locked myself in a room to cry. While I was lying there crying, though I was crying out to God, all the while I was thinking who I could call to make me feel better.
I have such a hard time just being satisfied with God's promises and comfort. And I know He put these people in my life to be able to run to, but even so, He should always come first. Before I think about anyone else, I should be thinking about Him.
Thank you so much for this!
